Gabriele Reuter and I are once again bringing together an exciting cast of improv experts for a weekend and presenting our results. This time, the Critical Mass Ensemble is a guest of the PSR Collective at the Heizhaus. You are cordially invited to watch and get a little active yourself in between, a bit like our Susi & Gabi Salon, or Freistil, for those who still remember it. You are welcome to bring your friends, children and family along.
The Critical Mass Ensemble is reassembled each time from a pool of improvisational dancers based in Berlin. At each performance, you will see the critical mass of us on stage – those who have time on that day to create a spontaneous performance for an audience after a short joint rehearsal. Facilitated by Susanne Martin and Gabriele Reuter, the group varies in size, form, location and costumes, but always remains committed to the art of improvisation in performance as its central artistic practice. In view of funding cuts and the loss of professional infrastructure, this is our strategy to minimise production costs and maximise group size and the joy of performing together.

Critical Mass Ensemble, the name for this new network, was conceived at the end of a spectacular weekend in Sasha Walz’s studios in December 2025. The names of the performers are not yet available, sorry, but this is what our Critical Mass looked like on 6/7 December, for example. From back to front: Rike Flämig, Jason Corff, Johannes Lind, Katarzyna Brzezinska, Gabriele Reuter, Hilla Steinert, Valentina Menz, Susanne Martin, Mariatheresia Molino
